Baleadas
If you think about Honduras and its food, probably you think about the most representative dish of this country: Baleadas.
This recipe consists of a folded wheat flour tortilla that it is stuffed (or smeared) with liquefied or crushed beans. In addition, this traditional Honduran food is usually tasted at breakfast or in the dinner. Just as in some meals you have heard that the secret is in the sauce, in the Honduran Baleadas Recipe the secret is in the mixture.

Flour Tortilla Ingredients
- 1 pound (4 cups) wheat flour
- ½ teaspoon of soda (baking powder)
- 1 tablespoon butter or vegetable oil
- ½ cup of water at a time or warm milk.
- Half teaspoon of salt
Preparation
- First, on a flat surface or in a wide bowl, place the flour, soda, salt and butter or oil.
- Then, we mix the ingredients and we add the water or milk little by little, so as to get a dough that does not stick in the
hands. The dough should be smooth. - Next we cut small pieces of dough to make the balls and let them stand for 30-45 minutes.
- Then, we heat a griddle or an iron where we will put the tortillas. Once hot it begins to stretch the ball with the yolks of the
fingers to make a small tortilla. - Then we finish stretching with the palms to form a larger tortilla. If this does not work we can stretch the balls with a
Roller, similar to stretching pizza dough. The tortilla should not be too thick to make it easy to eat. - Finally, we spread our flour tortilla with beans and add the selected complements.
